This job is a great opportunity to work closely with people and help them accomplish certain tasks. The work is relatively easy doesn't require a formal education. It is similar to a personal assistance job only you are taking care of a household. You work for the head of the household and help them with any tasks they may need. Managing bank accounts and grocery shopping are just some of the minor day–to–day things you'll be doing. Booking and planning family vacations and occasional childcare are also a part of the job.

The job really requires a broad range of talents and attributes. Personal skills and being able to communicate is one of the most important ones to have. You may be asked to greet and serve guests or plan and direct events. These situations require a sense of confidence and people skills. You will also need to be extremely responsible. Many vital and sensitive things will be left in your care and if they are not handling them right they could cause serious damage to the family and it’s welfare. Having a wide knowledge of the best places to shop and the best childcare agencies or even the best restaurants can be vital to a job like this. Being able to work with a team is probably one of the most important characteristics for this job. It is a managing position so you will be in charge of other household staff. This would include kitchen staff, cleaning staff, maintenance staff and any other employees of the household. Because this position primarily deals with administration work you won’t be doing the tasks, but overseeing that they get done. However, there will be times where you must fill in and help other staff members accomplish their assignment.

This job appeals to a younger population, because there is no formal education required. Often times you’ll receive the job by reputation which is why it is hard to have a successful career this first few years you are working. Job opportunities for teenagers are hard to find and sometimes even harder to keep. With this job it is possible to start working as a teen and through your hard work and dedication be promoted into an administration position. If you plan on making this a career you can and should receive a formal education with a degree pertaining to public service or human relations. An average starting salary for a position like this is around $45,000 a year and can grow to $100,000 a year plus benefits. Before accepting a position you should make sure that you have talked to your employer about promotions and the potential for salary increases. Because the employers are usually private families it can be difficult to find a job with benefits, but there are some available. The best way to find a job that is suited to your specific needs and desires is through a booking agency. Many agencies will look at your resume and make a decision with the employer to make sure the fit will be right. Agencies will usually require background checks and proof of immunization. Some states have laws regarding the qualifications of a household manager and others are more lax.



Some positions will be part time and will be considered an hourly job. If the position is part time be sure to find out how long the job will last and if they have another position you can fill once that one is terminated. This is also a very popular summer job for college students seeking temporary employment. These part time and summer jobs will not have a starting salary like a full time position would and will probably be accumulated hourly. However, the pay is still above average and the schedule can be negotiated between the employer and yourself.

If you like to manage things and be in charge this job will suite you just fine. There are opportunities for advancing in this career in position and pay grade. It is also versatile with positions part time and full time. Being honest and trustworthy are essential your success in this job. You have to be able to gain the trust of the family you will be working for and the staff you’ll be working with. Leadership skills will be mandatory in order to fulfill the responsibilities you’ll have. As long as you are respectful to the staffs concerns and are able to meet those needs in correspondence to the families you’ll make a wonderful household manager.
