Because of this, many individuals have been altogether missed or diagnosed with another label. Although there are certain, specific identifying traits and characteristics which present themselves in early childhood, these traits and characteristics are not limited to the very exaggerated or stereotyped behaviors seen in the media. Thus, autism can present differently for various individuals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Generally, autistic individuals , from a very young age, experience difficulties with social communication and relating. This does not mean that they are not interested in social relationships. Just like anyone else, some autistic children will be interested in socializing and others will not; it\u2019s about personality and make-up. But, what is universal, is that autistic children and teens will find it difficult to make sense of the give and take of social communication, to interpret the non-verbal and gray areas of communication, and will sometimes say things in a way that society has predetermined to be inappropriate even though it wasn\u2019t the intention of the individual at all. Some autistic children and teens are delayed in verbal communication or never verbally communicate, while others are highly verbose. Because socializing can be so much extra work, many autistic children and teens just give up trying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also present in autistic individuals are restrictive patterns of behavior or thinking and inflexibility to thinking, acting, or accepting others\u2019 behaviors beyond what they have fixed-upon as the only acceptable way in their minds. Their explanations may seem very irrational to others, but are very sensical in their linear way of thinking. This can lead to difficulty with emotional regulation when they become frustrated and cannot understand why they must be forced to accept what makes absolutely no sense to them. Also often present is difficulty with executive functioning, such as organizing, planning, activating themselves to begin an undesired task, and maintaining enough energy to complete the task.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Young autistic children may continue with parallel play beyond what is expected, and engage in either fantastical story making or limit their use of toys to non-imaginative play such as sorting and arranging which is quite enjoyable to them. School age autistic children and teens can show difficulty with listening comprehension and reading comprehension. By third grade, writing can become a laborious task they try to avoid. Autistic children and teens may also exhibit difficulty with independence skills, self-care, sleep patterns, diet and nutrition, anxiety, depression, and identity development. In late adolescence and early adulthood, autistic individuals are often labeled as eccentric, quirky, or aloof.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This evaluation provides a written report and feedback session that confirms the presence of the diagnosis or that provides evidence of other possible indicators for the challenges being experienced with recommendations for further testing and support. The process is compassionate and guided, leading to potentially life changing growth for clients. After scoring results, the process culminates with an hour long discussion, followed by a report approximately three to four weeks later. Your clinician remains available for another discussion to support the internal processes experienced by the individual and family, and to guide any potential subsequent steps moving forward.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_medium\"><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_small\"><\/div><div class=\"g-cols wpb_row via_flex valign_top type_default stacking_default\"><div class=\"vc_col-sm-12 wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h3>Testing Process: What\u2019s Included?<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-tabs ctft-accordion style_default switch_click accordion\" style=\"--sections-title-size:1.4rem\"><div class=\"w-tabs-sections titles-align_none icon_triangle cpos_right\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section active\" id=\"wd74\"><button class=\"w-tabs-section-header active\" aria-controls=\"content-wd74\" aria-expanded=\"true\"><h4 class=\"w-tabs-section-title\">Onboarding &amp; Virtual Intake<\/h4><div class=\"w-tabs-section-control\"><\/div><\/button><div  class=\"w-tabs-section-content\" id=\"content-wd74\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-content-h i-cf\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><ul>\n<li>Deposit collected<\/li>\n<li>Intake forms completed<\/li>\n<li>Upload of previous evaluations or helpful records<\/li>\n<li>Virtual intake scheduled with psychologist (if for a child, parents only) to review presenting concerns and answer questions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section\" id=\"becb\"><button class=\"w-tabs-section-header\" aria-controls=\"content-becb\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h4 class=\"w-tabs-section-title\">Assessment<\/h4><div class=\"w-tabs-section-control\"><\/div><\/button><div  class=\"w-tabs-section-content\" id=\"content-becb\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-content-h i-cf\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><ul>\n<li>Depending on the evaluation type, it can take up to 10 hours over multiple days.<\/li>\n<li>Dress comfortably; bring snacks and hydration.<\/li>\n<li>The assessment can also be completed virtually\u2014please speak with your provider.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section\" id=\"z01e\"><button class=\"w-tabs-section-header\" aria-controls=\"content-z01e\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h4 class=\"w-tabs-section-title\">Post-Evaluation Process<\/h4><div class=\"w-tabs-section-control\"><\/div><\/button><div  class=\"w-tabs-section-content\" id=\"content-z01e\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-content-h i-cf\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><ul>\n<li>Digital rating scales sent to parents\/partners\/educators\/pertinent collateral contacts with a Release of Information signed, the week following testing.<\/li>\n<li>Any needed follow-up information or data collection is scheduled.<\/li>\n<li>Psychologist spends between 20 hours scoring and synthesizing data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section\" id=\"u168\"><button class=\"w-tabs-section-header\" aria-controls=\"content-u168\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h4 class=\"w-tabs-section-title\">Virtual Feedback Appointment<\/h4><div class=\"w-tabs-section-control\"><\/div><\/button><div  class=\"w-tabs-section-content\" id=\"content-u168\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-content-h i-cf\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><ul>\n<li>Between 2-4 weeks after testing, you will meet with the psychologist virtually to review initial findings of the evaluation. Appointment is generally 1 hour.<\/li>\n<li>Priority action plan and recommendations will be reviewed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section\" id=\"j294\"><button class=\"w-tabs-section-header\" aria-controls=\"content-j294\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h4 class=\"w-tabs-section-title\">Final Report<\/h4><div class=\"w-tabs-section-control\"><\/div><\/button><div  class=\"w-tabs-section-content\" id=\"content-j294\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-content-h i-cf\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><ul>\n<li>You will receive the comprehensive written report within 1 month of the feedback meeting. Clinicians and staff are working on several different reports at any given time and only certain days are allocated to writing (versus testing\/consultation). It is not usually possible to expedite reports, and for equity in care, reports are provided in the order they are scheduled.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section\" id=\"q3b8\"><button class=\"w-tabs-section-header\" aria-controls=\"content-q3b8\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h4 class=\"w-tabs-section-title\">After Receiving the Report<\/h4><div class=\"w-tabs-section-control\"><\/div><\/button><div  class=\"w-tabs-section-content\" id=\"content-q3b8\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-content-h i-cf\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><ul>\n<li>After reviewing the report, reach out with any other questions you may have or to further process the findings and action items.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section\" id=\"o785\"><button class=\"w-tabs-section-header\" aria-controls=\"content-o785\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h4 class=\"w-tabs-section-title\">Our Toolbox<\/h4><div class=\"w-tabs-section-control\"><\/div><\/button><div  class=\"w-tabs-section-content\" id=\"content-o785\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-content-h i-cf\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p>Assessment should be personalized, thorough yet not excessive, and culturally relevant.
