The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.'s Internship Temporary Experience Program (ITEP) is part of the Pathways Internship Program. Pathways Internships with the DoS offer U.S. Citizens enrolled in high school, college, graduate school, and approved certificate programs an opportunity to experience Civil Service work firsthand. This is an excellent opportunity to learn the exciting work of the DoS.
This vacancy announcement will be open from 2/26/2013 to 3/5/2013 or when 50 applications have been received. The vacancy will close on whichever day the first of these conditions are met. If the application limit is reached on the same day the announcement opened, the open and close date will be the same. The Pathways Internship Program is for current students and individuals accepted for enrollment in a qualifying educational program.

The Pathways Internship Program targets students accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled in a qualifying educational program (degree, diploma, certificate, etc.) in an accredited institution, on a full or half-time basis with paid opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school. Applicants must meet the definition of student in order to be considered for this opportunity. ITEP participants are on temporary appointments that allow for seasonal employment (during summers and holiday breaks from academic program) as well as year-round employment should their academic programs allow. These appointments are limited to a year or less with possibility for extensions in one-year increments. This will be determined at the time of selection. At the successful conclusion of the program, interns may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a Federal career or career-conditional position in the competitive service. Interns may work full-time or part-time schedules. The Pathways Internship Program replaces the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) and Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP).

Pathways candidates must meet the agency-developed or OPM qualification standards applicable to the position being filled. The classification of the Pathways Intern positions (series and grade) will depend upon the field of study and level of coursework the candidate has completed.

A U.S. Citizen;
Candidate must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree-seeking student;
Cumulative GPA of 2.0 at time of application and must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA throughout the entire Pathways Internship appointment;
16 years or older by the closing date of this announcement; and
Degree does not have to be related to the position/series; however to be eligible, candidate must meet the OPM qualification standards for the position to which the Intern may be converted.

Student means an individual accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled), including awardees of the Harry S. Truman Foundation Scholarship Program under Public Law 93-842. Students need not be in actual physical attendance, so long as all other requirements are met. An individual who needs to complete less than the equivalent of half an academic/vocational or technical course-load immediately prior to graduating is still considered a student for purposes of this Program.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Must maintain student eligibility for duration of internship.
Depending on job, it may require a Secret/ Top Secret security clearance.
Incumbent will be subject to random drug testing.
U.S. Citizenship is required.
Must be at least 16 years of age by the closing date of the announcement.

DUTIES:
Supports business processes: Reviews technical information to determine requirements for procurements and other business processes; Enters data into automated systems to support standard procurement transactions that involve the use of different forms and the application of different procedures.
Documents information: Compiles data obtained through the use of automated systems and standardized methods and rules.
Corresponds with others: Assists with the dissemination of information; Drafts non-complex reports, correspondence, and other documents.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Applicants must meet all the required qualification requirements, including education and any selective placement factors described below by the closing date of this announcement. Education may only be substituted in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
in order to be credited towards qualifications.
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the education requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. To qualify for this position at the GS-04 grade level: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree.
All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at an institution that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
Candidates will be evaluated based solely on basic eligibility requirements using OPM Qualification standards. Candidates who meet the qualification requirements will be referred to the hiring official for consideration in an unranked order.
Veterans' preference applies for selection in all Pathways positions. Veterans entitled to preference will be listed ahead of those who are non-preference eligibles.
Selections will be made in accordance with the requirements of 5 CFR Part 302, veterans preference laws, and OPM guidance.

BENEFITS:
Employees hired under the Pathways Programs on appointments for 90 days or more are eligible to earn annual and sick leave. Interns hired under the Internship Temporary Experience Program (ITEP) are considered temporary employees and are generally not entitled to health and life benefits. However, once interns have been continuously employed for a year without a break in service exceeding 5 days, they may enroll in the Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) Program, but they would have to pay 100 percent of the premium (i.e., both the employee and government share). There is no provision for temporary employees to be eligible for life insurance coverage.
As a **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. employee, Interns are eligible to receive a transit subsidy each month to compensate for travel to and from work via certain types of public transportation.
OTHER INFORMATION:

Pathways Internship Temporary Experience Program (ITEP) appointments are made on a temporary basis.

Pathways Program Interns are eligible for conversion to the competitive service; however conversion is never guaranteed and in the Internship Temporary Experience Program (ITEP), conversion to the competitive service is unlikely. To be eligible for conversion to the competitive service after completion of the program, an intern must:
Be a U.S. Citizen
Successfully complete an academic course of study as evidenced by a qualifying degree
Graduate with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
Complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience under the Internship Program
Meet the OPM qualification standards for the position to which the Intern may be converted
Maintain acceptable performance under the Agency's approved performance management system
Receive favorable recommendation for conversion from supervisor
